What is preserved moss?
Preserved moss is real, natural moss that has been treated with a plant-based glycerin preservation process to maintain its softness, color, and shape. Unlike live moss, preserved moss does not require water, sunlight, or ongoing maintenance, making it ideal for indoor décor.
Is preserved moss real or artificial?
Preserved moss is 100% real moss, not artificial. It is sustainably harvested and preserved through a natural process that stops the growth cycle while maintaining the moss’s natural appearance, texture, and vibrant color.
Why does preserved moss feel soft and lifelike?
Preserved moss remains soft because it is treated with glycerin oil and natural pigments during the preservation process. The glycerin replaces the moss’s natural moisture, allowing it to stay flexible, plush, and vibrant for many years without drying out.
How long does preserved moss last?
With proper indoor conditions, preserved moss décor typically lasts 6–10+ years while maintaining its color and texture.
For best longevity:
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight
- Avoid high humidity or moisture
- Keep indoors at stable room temperatures
Indirect sunlight is completely safe and will not damage preserved moss.
Does preserved moss require maintenance?
No. Preserved moss is completely maintenance-free.
It does not require:

Our team builds the frames from raw wood, sands and finishes them, and then carefully arranges the preserved moss by hand. Each piece is custom made to order.

Why is there a processing time for moss art?
Preserved moss artwork is custom-made, not mass-produced. Each frame is built, finished, and filled with moss by hand.
Typical lead times:

How do you clean preserved moss?
To clean preserved moss:
- Use a blow dryer on a cool setting, held about 12 inches away
- Gently remove dust as needed
- A soft brush may also be used
Some light shedding after unpacking is normal and will stop shortly after installation.
I noticed moss shedding. Is this normal?
Yes. Light moss shedding during unboxing is completely normal.
Because moss is a natural material, small loose pieces may fall during shipping. Once the artwork is installed or placed in its final location, shedding typically stops within a few days.
Is preserved moss safe for homes with pets?
Yes. Preserved moss is non-toxic and non-allergenic, making it safe for homes with pets and children.
However, moss art is decorative and not intended to be handled or ingested.
How is preserved moss artwork shipped?
Orders are shipped via UPS Ground, FedEx Ground, or freight carriers, depending on the size of the artwork and destination.
All moss artwork is professionally packaged to protect the frame and moss during transit.
What if my moss art arrives damaged?
Damage during transit is rare, but if it occurs:
- Inspect your artwork upon delivery.
- Contact us right away if you notice any damage.
- Please keep the original shipping box and packaging, as these are required to file a claim with the shipping insurance provider.
We will guide you through the process and help resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
What is your return policy?
Because each moss piece is custom made to order, returns are not accepted.
However, if there is ever an issue with your order, please contact us and we will be happy to help resolve it.
