The Moss Shop was born from a simple yet powerful belief: natural design should feel intentional, refined, and deeply personal.

The idea began unexpectedly while furnishing our home. In a home décor showroom, we came across a preserved moss bowl that immediately captured our attention. The concept was compelling, but the execution felt unfinished — lacking the craftsmanship and detail that elevate an object into art. In that moment, a new vision formed: what if preserved moss décor could be executed with greater precision, depth, and artistry?

With over a decade of experience in e-commerce and small business operations, we began experimenting — sourcing materials, studying preservation techniques, and refining our process through relentless trial and error. The first piece took shape slowly, thoughtfully. When it was complete, something shifted. We saw not just décor, but possibility.

What began as a single handcrafted moss bowl evolved into a design philosophy: preserved moss should not be an afterthought — it should be sculptural, architectural, and enduring. It should transform a space.

The Moss Shop was built entirely from the ground up — quite literally. Early days meant cutting raw wood in the garage, composing moss at the kitchen counter, and packaging orders from a small upstairs office. There was no formal woodworking background, no established roadmap — only curiosity, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to refinement.

Through long nights, continuous learning, and a refusal to compromise on quality, the studio steadily grew.

Today, The Moss Shop operates out of our dedicated Bucktown, Chicago studio. We are a close-knit team of designers and makers who serve homeowners, interior designers, hospitality groups, and commercial brands nationwide. From custom residential installations to large-scale corporate features, each project is approached with the same level of intention and precision.

What truly defines our studio is that everything is created in-house.

We source raw wood and build our frames from the ground up — cutting, joining, sanding, and finishing each one ourselves. Every moss composition is hand-arranged, layer by layer, to achieve depth, movement, and organic balance. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is mass-produced. Each piece is functional art — designed to bring nature indoors in a way that feels elevated, architectural, and timeless.

For us, this journey has never been just about growth. It has been about craftsmanship, creative evolution, and the privilege of becoming part of the spaces and stories our clients care about most.
